Another week gone! It’s only 3 weeks until Easter!
I have been musing on this verse over the past few days, “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision..” (Acts 26:19 NKJV)
Paul was rehearsing his story of radical transformation to the King. A story that included his dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus, how God supernaturally redirected his life and how God was using him to change lives.
Paul’s obedience to God’s vision has influenced all of us.
This is how Eugene Petersen renders verse 19 & 20, “What could I do, King Agrippa? I couldn’t just walk away from a vision like that! I became an obedient believer on the spot. I started preaching this life-change—this radical turn to God and everything it meant in everyday life—right there in Damascus, went on to Jerusalem and the surrounding countryside, and from there to the whole world!”
Some years ago one of our good friends said this “God has someone else waiting on the other side of your obedience”. Someone will be blessed because of your decision. Somebody will receive the gospel because of your sacrifice.
Sometimes the most difficult thing to do is to obey God rather than pursue our own desires or preferences. Perhaps it’s our self sufficiency, self determination or self-will that prevents us from doing what God wants?
Jesus identifies with our struggle. Obeying Gods plan instead of His own in the Garden of Gethsemane was an intense battle. However, I’m so glad He obeyed His Father.
Likewise we have been given a vision – a heavenly mandate – to go into all the world and share the good news about Jesus Christ. Someone in your workplace needs the hope you have in your heart. Somebody in your neighbourhood needs to experience His kindness. Someone in your family needs to see His grace at work in their lives.
Let’s give ourselves wholeheartedly to His vision for our lives and see a multitude come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
See you Sunday
