Rivercity News – Sunday 12th June 2016

Hi Church!

Gary and I are enjoying a mini-break at Caloundra for our 30th Anniversary.
Thanks for all of your words of love and encouragement.

Philippians 3:13-14 “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”

Moving ahead is difficult to do when you’re stuck in the issues of life.

Two weeks ago, during my message, I mentioned this, “Guard your heart because everything
stops and starts with us.” It’s very true, sometimes we want someone else to come along and
make everything right for us but it’s actually our responsibility.
So often we want someone else to make our problems go away, to rectify the wrongs,
to heal the past and to make the road ahead smooth.

When we do this, we are not experiencing true freedom in Christ. We are not walking in
the victory that He has gained for us. We remain stuck in the moment and trapped on the
Merry-Go-Round of life’s circumstances.

More problems arise in our lives when we put our confidence in man. When we make him
or her the answer to our problem, we unconsciously make an idol (Psalm 118:8).
When we take our eyes off God, we become reliant on someone else. We shift our focus
and energy on to others and our problems simply escalate emotionally and mentally.

There is victory, healing and strength in the Name of Jesus. He has the answers to everything
we face. But He is waiting for us to lay hold of Him. He is wanting us to “reach forward to those things
which are ahead, (and) press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.

As we personally experience His presence and power in our own lives, we are better positioned
to help people who are craving for answers and solutions to their problems.

There is a popular saying in the world “Be the change YOU want to see in the world”.
The principle here is ‘incarnation’.
We are the change agents.
We bring the change Christ wants to see in our community.
We embody His values. Everything stops and starts with us.

Instead of waiting for someone to give you a kind word, be the kindness factor at work.
Instead of waiting for someone to comfort you, be a comfort to someone else.
Instead of waiting for someone to bless you financially, be a financial blessing to someone in need.
Instead of waiting for a breakthrough, pray for someone else who needs a miracle.

God wants to impact their lives! There is always someone waiting on the other side of our obedience.
We need to listen to the whispers of God rather than the voice of our own inadequacies.

Be the change! Be His hands and feet! Enjoy your week!

Lots of love

Nikki Rucci
An Opportunity to be the Change…..
“Do Something Day’ – Wednesday 15 June
There is a campaign supported by The Courier Mail and our local Quest Newspaper to encourage people
to do random acts of kindness, or to volunteer for a church, charity or other organisation on 15 June.

As Christ followers we know that we should show kindness everyday but let’s not miss this opportunity.
We are an integral part of our local community and this great city. Let’s join others and do good!
Let’s show the kindness and love of Jesus in practical ways.

It may only take a few minutes of your time to impact a person’s life.

The campaign organisers want their positive message to go viral. They are requesting you mention it
on social media, post photos or share with others the good thing you did!

We encourage you to do the same on the Rivercity Facebook page. Mention it on Twitter or Instagram as well.
Use this tag at the end of your message #DoSomethingDay or #GiveYourBest.
